How Ontario taxes your paycheque
Every paycheque in Ontario loses three things before it reaches you: CPP contributions, EI premiums and income tax, which is federal plus provincial. In 2026, CPP is 5.95% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, plus 4% CPP2 up to $85,000. EI is 1.63% up to $68,900. For 2027 the CPP rate drops to 5.75%, the ceilings rise to $76,700 and $87,400, and EI is 1.64% up to $70,800.
Ontario's basic personal amount is $12,989 for 2026, so that much income is free of provincial tax. Ontario adds a surtax on higher provincial tax and the Ontario Health Premium (up to $900 a year), both included here.
